One of the most common things I've heard since the playoffs began is, "I don't care who wins, as long as it's not the Heat."
Are you one of those people?
As somebody who writes 25-50 sports articles and blog posts on various sites throughout the week, I need to try and carry as open of a mind as possible. For whatever reason I too feel a dislike for Miami's basketball team.
At first I thought it was because of LeBron James. His pompous attitude when he left Cleveland still resonates negatively with me. But, as a Laker fan, I have to deal with pompous attitudes on a weekly basis. So that can't be it.
Perhaps it is Dwyane Wade and the way he always looks like he doesn't care. Maybe it's because he broke Kobe's nose or how the media sweeps his cheap shots on others under the rug as if they never happened. Yes, maybe he's the reason I hate the Heat.
The Heat have players I like though. Shane Battier has long been one of the hardest working players in the league. Chris Bosh, although dramatic on the court at times, is one of those players who carries himself as a true professional on and off the court.
James carries himself well off the court too. He is involved in countless charities and doesn't allow himself to get into legal trouble. As far as I can tell, he seems like a very decent man.
Wade appears to be the same way. We don't hear much from the "Big Three" during the off-season because they don't get into trouble. So why do I feel the need to see them fail?
After watching their Game Five loss against Boston the reason became crystal clear. It's not the way these players conduct themselves off the court that irk me, but rather it is how they play the game of basketball with no passion whatsoever.
If you have the Game Five saved on your DVR, watch how bad they are in transition. Rajon Rondo was right, they stop to complain to the referee's after almost every transition.
If James or Wade drive to the basket and miss the shot, they don't sprint back on defense. Instead they either complain to the referee or they put their hands on their knees before slowly trotting back to play defense.
The lack of effort, coupled with the smugness James and Wade carry themselves with on the court is why I am inclined to smirk if they lose.
Before the Miami faithful rip my head off, please note that I felt the same sort of hatred towards my beloved Los Angeles Lakers this year. Andrew Bynum single handedly aged me at least five years with his selfish attitude and lack of hustle.
Why do people get so much joy from seeing the Miami Heat fail?

I just dont like any team lebron plays for. The off season introduction of the big 3 made things worse and then the comment of winning more rings than they have fingers was just icing on the cake.
Side note-NBA needs to start callings traveling/ walking/taking 8 steps then dunk/layup. Also you shouldnt be able to jump on a guys back to push your self up and over the player to dunk preventing the defender from even getting a chance to defend.

The main reason why folks hate the heat is because the media told them to. I think it's a bit sad that people can't see that the way teams like heat and lakers are covered is MUCH different than how teams like the spurs and thunder are covered. The media likes to create good guys and bad guys and it apparently the viewers eat it up.

i think people need to get over the lebron decision i have a question to ask when a high school player chooses a school to play for does he not have a confrence or when the same player wants to make that leap to the pros does he not have a confrence i mean come on now people give him a break he never had his confrence so espn gave him one . hay lebron you dont owe any one no apology man do you ... yo lebron just get the chip man and watch all of their faces so please folks stop hating on the decision it was classic i loved just as well as every one else who tuned in lets go heat ...... ballgame

that's funny, charter04. i didn't say that it was justified. as the season goes along, teams proved that they can hang with the heat. but at the time, specially after lebron's announcement, it was there.

thats cool all yall can hate...no really its ok. What you fail to realize is that James and Wade keep quiet for most of the season....then come playoffs they begin to take form. everybody seen how James dominated the Celtics in game 6...and ppl wonder why doesnt he do that all the time...well when you bully and badger long enough...they snap. Lebron james pulled a columbine on the Celtics and laid them to rest. We all know what it feels like to relieve all the stress and Im sure James feels good and wants it to stay that way. So to all the Heat haters keep hating cuz its only gonna get better for him. ps....how Kobes vacation? lol

Heat fan here since 2002. The Heat were once a loved team, pre-Big 3. I think the reason most people hate them is because of LeBron. It's easy to forget that LeBron was once a fan favorite in Cleveland. After "The Decision" he lost a lot of fans. People just want to see him fail in particular instead of the Heat as a whole. Nobody on the Heat besides him really gets under people's skins. Maybe D Wade with his flopping and complaining..but nobody complains about Bosh or Rio or UD.

The reason I have so much hatred and disgust towards the Miami Heat is simple. First off all, these 3 players collaborated this scheme well before free agency began. They were warned not to and the NBA did a very poor job at watching the movements of these 3 players and their handlers. They found their way around the NBA watchful eye and at the end of the day all 3 players just happen to decide "In the best interest of basketball" to sign with the same team? Now granted that they were "free" agents that had earned the right to go play where they wanted to play. All 3 players had honored the contracts they signed with their former teams and I will not be so one sided as to not admit that, but the one thing I really am upset about is that both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors succumbed to both James and Bosh at the end. As upset as Dan Gilbert was, why would he agree to a sign and trade deal? Yes I understand that was the only way he was going to get anything in return for James, but why not stick it to James and then he loses out on that 5th year and $25 million? The other reason why I have such a hatred for the Miami Heat is simply on LeBron James. He is without a doubt the most over hyped athlete that has done NOTHING in his profession. He is 0-2 in the NBA Finals with a record of 2-8 (.250 winning percentage). Ok, so he has 3 MVP awards, his latest one from this season is a travesty just based on the fact that there were 3 other players who clearly deserved it more then him and those were Kobe Bryant (33 years old and people said he was washed up, yeah right), Kevin Durant (his chances went down the drain when the Thunder folded towards the end of the season), and Tony Parker (who rightfully deserved the MVP award for leading the "old age, over the hill" Spurs to the league's best record and 11 game winning streak and 10 game winning streak during the season). LeBron winning the 2011-12 MVP award made the award completely lose its long term meaning of the world "valuable". It showed the sports writers decided the award based on statistics and not the overall value of a player to his team. Like I said, LeBron is the most over hyped athlete who has done nothing to be compared to or even put in the same sentence as the names of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Yes Kobe Bryant is 5-2 career in the NBA Finals, but its that number 5 that puts him in the same sentence as Michael Jordan. It doesn't matter how many titles LeBron James might win, his career will not be on the same level as Jordan or Bryant. In my own poll, LeBron James barely cracks my top 5 let alone my top 10. He lacks the clutch gene, he fears the fourth quarter and he doesn't have that killer instinct. Is he a great athlete? Yes he is, but not on the level of Jordan or Kobe. The Miami Heat will not win any ring and I guarantee you that after the fourth year when he can opt out, he will opt out and he will head west to the only franchise that he could win with.

I hate the Heat because of doing things without class, they did things very cocky. I also hate the fact the Lebron knew way ahead of time what he was going to do , but played everyone for a fool.
I wanted Lebron to have his own team, and not feel the only way he can win a ring is by teaming up with another superstar. Lebron is a beast and did not have to team up with Wade to win a ring. I feel that move cheated the fans and the game of basketball.
If you dont understand the repercussions of this trio teaming up, then you dont understand what a true champion is in sports.
There are no shortcuts.

LeBron is the reason i don't like the Heat. The way he came down to Miami was unreasonable. And then to hold some massive celebration for a team that hasn't won a championship yet, was unnecessary. I love Chris Bosh and D-Wade as players, but i just can't stand LeBron. And LeBron is too cocky in my opinion. I've watched some Heat games where LeBron would repeatedly call for the ball and take a bad shot and miss it, when teammates would be open. But there are also some times where he is a good teammate but usually he is too cocky to me. LeBron and Wade cannot work together, they each need to be a leader which you cannot have two leaders on a basketball team, or it will lead to chemistry issues within the locker room.
If LeBron would of came down to Miami more reasonably, I would not mind it nearly as much. And then promising multiple championships in this league full of superstars and great teams. This is the National Basketball Association, not the American Basketball Association.
And they will not win a championship with the bench and role players they have right now. And they will not have the cap space to sign a quality role player.
